From 2G to 4G
Is your business ready to switch from 2G to 4G?
Because the 2G network is outdated, it will be phased out in most countries in Europe in the coming years to provide space for the roll-out of 4G/5G. In most cases, the 2G network will be maintained for some time because a relatively large number of M2M (Machine-to-Machine) services such as smart meters, e-call systems and GPS trackers still depend on it. Nevertheless, declining coverage and eventual closure must be taken into account.
In the Netherlands and countries around us, preparations are being made for the switch to 4G. Most vehicle tracking systems in the Netherlands are still equipped with 2G modems for connectivity. As soon as the 2G network is shut down, these GPS devices no longer work.
Rental Tracker has therefore focused fully on the development of 4G trackers in recent years, which has allowed us to offer our customers 4G trackers in addition to 2G trackers for quite some time. As a result, many of our customers have already made the switch to 4G, consciously or unconsciously, and are ready for the future!
Overview of the announced end dates of the offer of 2G networks in Europe as far as known:
